External penile pumps are considered experimental and investigational for other indications including for the prevention of erectile dysfunction following prostatectomy because their effectiveness for these indications has not been established.
Male erectile problems often produce a significant emotional reaction based on the impact of erectile dysfunction on confidence, self-esteem, and morale in most men. This is described as a pattern of anxiety and stress that can further interfere with normal sexual function. Such "performance anxiety" needs to be recognized and addressed by a doctor.
Liver disease can be cause by a variety of things including infection (hepatitis), diseases, for example, gallstones, high cholesterol or triglycerides, blood flow obstruction to the liver, and toxins (medications and chemicals). Prolactin is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland within the brain. Certain conditions can cause a raised prolactin level (hyperprolactinaemia), which can suppresses the production of other hormones (called luteinising hormone, LH, and follicle stimulating hormone, FSH) from the pituitary gland, and therefore in turn result in low testosterone levels. Low testosterone levels can subsequently predispose to erectile dysfunction.
