Exercise may be the ticket to a more active sex life, but we’re talking about regular cardio and strength workouts, not targeted “penis exercises.” Research shows that even a little bit of physical activity — the equivalent of walking 30 minutes a day a few times a week — may lower the risk of erectile dysfunction.
Quitting smoking, exercising regularly, losing excess weight, curtailing excessive alcohol consumption, controlling hypertension, and optimizing blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes are not only important for maintaining good health but also may improve or even prevent progression of erectile dysfunction. It is unclear if such lifestyle changes can reverse erectile dysfunction. However, lifestyle improvements may prevent progression of the erectile dysfunction. Some studies suggest that men who have made lifestyle improvements experience increased rates of success with oral medications.

Once the endothelium or smooth muscle becomes damaged, the penis may not function normally, even with adequate blood flow. Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) is also more likely to develop. Plaque builds up on the artery walls, which can slow down or completely block blood flow.

Physical disorders associated with erectile dysfunction can sometimes be related to hormones in the body. Non-hormonal causes include conditions that affect the blood supply to the penis (such as high blood pressure, type 1 or type 2 diabetes and smoking) and those that affect the nerves supplying the penis (such as Parkinson’s disease and damage to the nerves in the body e.g. due to both type 1 or type 2 diabetes). Erectile dysfunction can also be a side-effect of a medical intervention or treatment. Potential treatments that may be implicated in the cause of erectile dysfunction include certain antidepressants and treatment for high blood pressure (antihypertensives).
“We knew that physical activity reduces the risk of erectile dysfunction, but here we see clearly that it could also be a form of treatment. This makes sense because when you create better flow through the blood vessels, you are actually treating the very cause of erectile dysfunction. So I think that this study could very well lead to a treatment,” she says.
Not only physical activity but erection dysfunction can also be solved by taking a natural food diet.
The 'Commando' actor also shared a set of exercises which he said, if practised daily, can help address erectile dysfunction. "Here's KalariSutra, a set of 19 exercises which if practised daily will help in rejuvenating your blood flow and bring sexual energy back into the pelvic region. Sexual health is a salient part of overall wellness and it should be talked about more openly so as to eradicate the taboo," the 40-year-old actor added. As its name suggests, this exercise targets the muscles of the pelvis, strengthening them and increasing their range of motion as they’re rotated clockwise and anticlockwise. However, given that you have to be in a plank while doing this, your core power also improves. The abdominals, chest and back together help you maintain that position. The arms and shoulders are also toned. Go into a plank position. Place your palms firmly on the floor in line with your shoulders. Extend your legs at the back. Keep your elbows and knees straight. Bring your body in one straight line from head to toe. Swing your hips from side to side. Thrust your hips upwards and downwards. Rotate your hips. Repeat in a seamless motion. Cat and cow
Another potential new treatment consists of penile low-intensity shock wave lithotripsy. This consists of 1500 shocks twice a week for 3–6 weeks. The purpose is to stimulate neovascularisation to the corporal bodies with improvement in penile blood flow and endothelial function. The use of low-intensity shock wave lithotripsy may convert PDE5 inhibitor non-responders to responders.47
“Street” drugs can dampen a man’s feelings of arousal as well as other sensations. Illicit drugs can take away the pleasure of sex and make a man impotent. Some men use drugs to cope with other issues that could be the root of their penile dysfunction. Using drugs only compounds a man’s difficulty in achieving and maintaining erections.

At times the baseline work-up may be entirely negative or normal. It is at this point that your physician may refer you to a specialist or urologist. The use of nocturnal penile tumescence testing helps to differentiate physical causes of ED from psychological causes. There are low and high tech methods that document the presence and frequency of erections while you sleep. One method is a penile strap attached to the flaccid (limp) penis at bedtime. If the band is broken upon rising, then an erection is recorded. The typical number of nocturnal erections is three to four per night. A simple evaluation is the presence or absence of morning erections (piss hard-on). When present in the face of sexual difficulties, the problem is likely psychological.
